Synthesis and characterization of metallic complexes of 3-(2-furyl) 2-propenal semicarbazone with d element dihalides

Abstract: 2-propenal semicarbazone (FASC) and CO ll, Ni n, CuII, Zn H and Cd I! chlorides or bromides gave the complexes: [M(FASC)eX2], [M(FASC)2]X2 or [M(FASC)X2] which were characterized starting from elemental analysis and molar conductances. Their structures are discussed on the basis of magnetic moments, infrared and electronic spectra ; in addition, the NMR data are used in the case of Zn H and Cd u species. The main cell parameters are given using X-ray diffraction powder diagrams.

“…The complexes [CoCl 2 (FTSC) 2 ], [CoBr 2 (FTSC) 2 ] and [CoCl 2 (FATSC) 2 ] present this type of bands between 17,600 and 18,000 cm −1 . With regards to Racah's B parameter for the same three complexes, the calculated values are close to those of the corresponding semicarbazones as reported by Ibrahim et al, 31,33 and they are also comparable to the values of other cobalt(II) complexes derived from thiosemicarbazones. 29,35 On the other hand, the tetracoordinated structure of the [CoCl 2 (M5FTSC)] complex and its blue color, indicate tetrahedral geometry for this compound.…”

“…These values are in accord with those found for the corresponding complexes of semicarbazones of [CoX 2 (L) 2 ] type, which have an octahedral geometry. [31,33] Ferguson et al 34 showed that the existence of an asymmetric band in the UV-VIS spectrum centred at around 17 000 cm −1 is typical of octahedral complexes of cobalt(II), and that a shoulder band situated towards the side of higher energies corresponds to forbidden spin transitions. The complexes [CoCl 2 (FTSC) 2 ], [CoBr 2 (FTSC) 2 ] and [CoCl 2 (FATSC) 2 ] present this type of bands between 17,600 and 18,000 cm −1 .…”

“…We recently reported the synthesis and characterisation of metallic complexes obtained from 3-(2-furyl) 2-propenal semicarbazone (FASC) (1) . We present here the synthesis and structural characterisation of new metallic complexes between, on one hand, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc and cadmium dihalides and 2-furaldehyde semicarbazone (FSC) and, on the other, 5-methyl-(2-furaldehyde) semicarbazone (MFSC).…”

“…As a part of our continuous research work pertaining to the synthesis and biological activity of metal complexes from semicarbazones [8,9] and thiosemicarbazones from 2-furaldehyde [7,10] we describe here some new transition metal complexes obtained from 3-thiophenaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (3TTSCH) (Fig. 1) as ligand.…”
