Synthesis and Characterization of Microwave-Assisted Copolymer Membranes of Poly(vinyl alcohol)-g-starch-methacrylate and Their Evaluation for Gas Transport Properties

Abstract: Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) is an excellent membrane-forming polymer and can be modified with potato starch and methyl acrylate monomers to obtain copolymers with improved physical and chemical properties. The study presents the synthesis of poly(vinyl alcohol)-g-starch-poly(methyl acrylate) PVA-g-St-g-PMA copolymers using microwave irradiation technique and potassium persulfate initiator. Solution casting and solvent evaporation methods were adopted for the fabrication of polyvinyl alcohol-g-starch-acrylamide c… Show more

“…This process significantly enhances the flexibility and processability of the material [9]. Although products made from TPS exhibit good oxygen barrier properties, biodegradability, and compostability, some deficiencies, such as strong water absorption, relatively poor mechanical properties, and low thermal stability, limit their uses [10][11][12][13]. Furthermore, products made from TPS swell and deform upon exposure to high-moisture media.…”

“…MOFs have received a lot of attention as fillers for NCMs and MMMs due to their tuneable pore structures and adaptable outlines, which contain exceptional compatibility with polymer matrixes. The resulting NCMs were investigated for gas separation methods such as CO 2 /N 2 , H 2 /CO 2 , CO 2 /C 3 H 8 , and H 2 /CH 4 separation [ 17 , 18 ]. Using ZIF-8, a subfamily of MOFs, the polyimide was mixed with ZIF-8.…”
