Synthesis and Characterization of Monometallic (Ag, Cu) and Bimetallic Ag-Cu Particles for Antibacterial and Antifungal Applications

Abstract: In this paper, the experimental studies are concerned with the effect of the synthesis parameters on the formation of monometallic Ag and Cu nanoparticles (NPs). We consider the synthesis strategies verification for the bimetallic core-shell and alloy particles preparation. It was successfully obtained by chemical reduction method. The obtained colloidal solution is characterized by the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) data, UV-Vis spectra, particle size di… Show more

“…The varied results of synthesized NPs can be the result of the quality of commercially available NP colloids, human mistakes during the synthesis, and the conditions of this process, according to AgCuNPs. Studies carried out by Paszkiewicz et al [30] suggest that the methods of NP synthesis influence the average size of NPs. In their studies, the average size of AgNPs was 40 nm using NaBH4, and was even 10 times lower in comparison to NPs received using N 2 H 4 reducing agent [30].…”

“…The difference between the values obtained is associated with the exchange of ligands that occurs when functionalizing the AgNPs with folic acid. Additionally, the AgNPs in this range of values observed are considered to be stable [49]. The negative charge on the surface of the nanoparticles could be associated with the presence of the deprotonated carboxyl groups of folic acid [31,59].…”

“…In view of this, we recently obtained and characterized a series of colloidal solutions to impregnate fabrics that will exhibit antibacterial and antifungal properties [69]. In this work we show the application of selected five types of impregnation solutions, containing Ag/Cu in the form of bimetallic nanoparticles (alloy and core-shell) as well as ionic species, for textiles impregnation.…”
