Synthesis and Characterization of New 2-(2-Thienyl)-5- Aryl-1,3,4-Oxadiazoles

Abstract: A series of new 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives incorporating thiophene moiety were synthesized by the cyclization of N-(2thenoyl)-N'-aroylhydrazine in the presence of phosphorus oxychloride. The intermediate and final compounds were characterized by infrared (IR), nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H-NMR and 13 C-NMR) spectroscopy, and by their physicochemical properties.
