Synthesis and characterization of poly[styrene‐b‐methyl(3,3,3‐trifluoropropyl)siloxane] diblock copolymers via anionic polymerization

Abstract: A series of narrow molecular weight distribution (MWD) polystyrene‐b‐poly[methyl(3,3,3‐trifluoropropyl)siloxane] (PS‐b‐PMTFPS) diblock copolymers were synthesized by the sequential anionic polymerization of styrene and trans‐1,3,5‐trimethyl‐1,3,5‐tris(3′,3′,3′‐trifluoropropyl)cyclotrisiloxane in tetrahydrofuran (THF) with n‐butyllithium as the initiator. The diblock copolymers had narrow MWDs ranging from 1.06 to 1.20 and number‐average molecular weights ranging from 8.2 × 103 to 37.1 × 103. To investigate the… Show more

“…Furthermore, their electron-withdrawing properties have facilitated their use as an electrical charge control agent in photocopy toners [37], and their superior mechanical strength and low refractive index have facilitated their use in optical fiber [38]. Also, the fluorine electronic effect is taken advantage of in 19 F MRI imaging applications [39].…”

“…As a whole, at the same immersion time, DM and DV of different samples decreased with an increase in the VFS oil content. As reported previously, 35,43 the introduction of -CH 2 CH 2 CF 3 could well improve the oil resistance of materials. Actually, the oil resistance of the polysiloxane rubber was improved by the incorporation of VFS oil.…”

“…And the T g of polyether WPU is almost unchanged. The endothermic peaks around 50 and 40 °C in polyester and polyether WPU, respectively, can be attributed to short range reorganization within the hard segment microdomains distributed in the soft phase and melting of crystalline regions of soft segments . The peak of SFS‐0.0 is larger may due to the better crystalline ability of PBA than PTMG and PTFPMS .…”

“…The bands near 1263, 898, and 837 cm −1 are ascribed to the symmetric bending and rocking vibrations of the SiCH 3 group, respectively. The band around 1209 cm −1 is attributed to the SiCH 2 CH 2 CF 3 vibrations, while the SiOSi has a sharp peak at 1067 cm −1 . With increasing PTFPMS, these bands strengthen continuously, indicating the designed amount of PTFPMS has been successfully introduced into the backbone of WPU.…”
