Synthesis and characterization of polyaniline derivative and silver nanoparticle composites

Abstract: BACKGROUND: There has been a recent surge of interest in the synthesis and applications of electroactive polymers with incorporated metal nanoparticles. These hybrid systems are expected to display synergistic properties between the conjugated polymers and the metal nanoparticles, making them potential candidates for applications in sensors and electronic devices. RESULTS:Composites of polyaniline derivatives -polyaniline, poly(2,5-dimethoxyaniline) and poly(aniline-2,5dimethoxyaniline) -and silver nanoparticl… Show more

“…The weight loss at ̴ 280 °C was the decomposition of the dopant anion (oxalate anion). Finally, the decomposition temperature of PDMA backbone was at ̴ 400 °C 40,41 . These results confirm the successful polymerization of the doped-PDMA.…”

“…In a few cases materials properties such as electrical conductivity and thermal stability have been explored and compared to those of the corresponding pristine polymer materials. For instance, in the case of Ag-PANI-PSS and Ag-PDMA-PSS nanocomposites, an improved thermal stability has been established [40]. Concerning the electrical conductivity, there are differing data showing increased [15,23,27,43] or preserved [20,40] conductivity of the composites in comparison with the corresponding pristine polymers, synthesized under identical conditions.…”

“…The second endothermic peak has been observed in the temperature region 150˚C - 300˚C of the thermogram. The change in energy in this region is associated with the morphological changes [25,26] taking place due to melting of the polymer. This indicates that the peaks are centered around glass transition temperature (T g ) which is ~207˚C, 275˚C, and 180˚C for samples PDMA1, PDMA3 and PDMA5, respectively.…”
