“…Among many methods, sol-gel synthesis is particularly promising for production of materials without the need of high-temperature calcination that influence the final properties of the product. [26,27] Concerning these structures, the present study is aimed to obtain cerium titanate compounds as alternative colouring materials to substitute the highly toxic lead, cadmium, chromium and nickel pigments, commonly used in the ceramic industry. This work stresses in the synthetic methodologies (sol-gel route) which allow to obtain mixed oxides with Ti(IV)/Ce(III), Ti(IV)/Ce(IV) or Ti(IV)/Ce(III)-Ce(IV) species.…”

“…Deconvolution of the TO-Ni-02 spectrum into components (designated as TO-Ni-02* in Figure 6a), excluding the contribution of the low-intensity signal of Fe 3+ , showed that the broad signal (N1) was characterized by g = 2.19, and the narrow one (N2) was characterized by g = 2.003. The g-factor value for component N1 is typical of Ni 2+ ions in the octahedral crystal field [50,51]. Hence, it can be suggested that Ni 2+ ions substituted the Ti 4+ species in some octahedra within the TiO 2 (B) lattice.…”

“…The most recent studies show that the addition of small quantities of Nb 2 O 5 into TiO 2 lattice significantly increases the photocatalytic activity and surface acidity of TiO 2 [46,47]. On the other hand, Fe(III) doped photocrystaline titania have also been widely studied in the field of photocatalysis [32,33,[48][49][50].…”
