Synthesis and Critical Micelle Concentration of a Series of Gemini Alkylphenol Polyoxyethylene Nonionic Surfactants

Abstract: A series of gemini n-alkylphenol polyoxyethylene surfactants (GAP) were successfully synthesized and their molecular structure were confirmed by NMR and FTIR spectrum. Using the same synthesis route, a gemini nonylphenol polyoxyethylene surfactant (GNP) was synthesized using an industrial nonylphenol product and paraformaldehyde, and its molecular structure was also characterized by 1 H-NMR and FTIR spectra. The optimal reaction conditions were established. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) values of GA… Show more

“…The development of synthetic pathways for the efficient access to alkyl phenols and anilines is attracting a lot of attention owing to the importance of these motifs as building blocks for the production of fine chemicals, 1 polymers, 2 and pharmaceuticals. 3 Long chain alkyl phenols play a key role in the industrial production of non-ionic surfactants ( e.g.…”

“…The fluorescence intensity ratio of the first and third peaks of pyrene is known to be sensitive to environmental polarity. Therefore, the I 1 / I 3 ratio could be used to estimate the CVC value of HEEPCDA in D 2 O and H 2 O, respectively. The fluorescence spectra of pyrene were obtained changing the HEEPCDA concentration from 5 × 10 –7 to 1 × 10 –5 M using D 2 O and H 2 O, respectively.…”

“…The cmc value of the cellulose-based amphiphilic surfactant solution was also determined by steady-state fluorescence probe method on Hitachi F-4500 spectrophotometer [33]. Prior to each experiment, 1 × 10 −7 mol/L pyrene was dissolved in cellulosebased amphiphilic surfactant solution at 25 • C. The fluorescence spectra of pyrene was measured from 350 to 450 nm by the excitation at 335 nm.…”
