Synthesis and Crystal Structures of Two Isomerically Pure Organotransition-Metal [60]Fullerene Derivatives Containing dppb Ligands:  mer-M(CO)3(dppb)(η2-C60) (M = Mo, W)

Abstract: The reaction of M(CO) 3 (CH 3 CN) 3 (M ) Mo, W) with an equimolar quantity of 1,2-bis-(diphenylphosphino)benzene (dppb) results in formation of fac-M(CO) 3 (dppb) (CH 3 CN) (1, M ) Mo, 73%; 2, M ) W, 62%). Interaction of 1 or 2 with [60]fullerene in chlorobenzene at about 80 °C gives the isomerically pure isomers mer-M(CO) 3 (dppb)(η 2 -C 60 ) (3, M ) Mo, 76%; 4, M ) W, 66%). All the new compounds 1-4 have been characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic methods, as well as by single-crystal X-ray di… Show more

“…À7 ppm for their two identical coordinated P atoms and two identical uncoordinated free P atoms, respectively. That the chemical shifts of the coordinated P atoms lie at much lower field compared to the corresponding free P atoms is due to transfer of the lone pair of electrons from P atom to metal center, which has been well observed for the other phosphine-coordinated fullerene complexes such as (g 2 -C 60 )Pt(PPh 3 ) 2 [10], (g 2 -C 60 )M(CO) 3 (dppb) (M = Mo, W) [11] and (g 2 -C 60 )M(CO) 3 (DIOP) (M = Mo, W) [12]. The X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that complex 2 (Fig.…”

“…Among such known fullerene metal complexes, some molybdenum and tungsten η 2 models of [60]fullerene derivatives have been reported [11][12][13][14] . On the other hand, the nonlinear optical properties of fullerenes, their derivatives and carbon nanotubes have been widely investigated [15][16][17][18][19][20] .…”

“…[2][3][4][5][6] Previously, we have reported several series of transition metal-fullerene complexes that contain various phosphane ligands, such as Ph 2 PCH 2 CH 2 PPh 2 (dppe), [7] 1,2-(Ph 2 P) 2 C 6 H 4 (dppb), [8] DIOP, [9] Ph 2 PCH 2 (CH 2 OCH 2 ) n -CH 2 PPh 2 , [10] [(η 5 -Ph 2 PC 5 H 4 ) 2 Fe] (dppf), [11] and [(η 5 -Ph 2 PC 5 H 4 ) 2 Ru] (dppr). [12] Now, as a continuation of this research program, we report other types of transition metal-fullerene complexes that contain either the diphosphane ligand trans-1,1Ј-bis(diphenylphosphanyl)ethylene (dppet) or the tetraphosphane ligand N,N,NЈ,NЈ-tetra(diphenylphosphanylmethyl)ethylene diamine (dppeda).…”
