Synthesis and Interfacial Behavior of Amphiphilic Hyperbranched Polymers:  Poly(ethylene oxide)−Polystyrene Hyperbranches

Abstract: We report the synthesis of novel hyperbranched amphiphilic poly(ethylene oxide)−polystyrene (PEO−PS) n copolymers obtained by controlled radical polymerizations:  nitroxide mediated polymerization (NMP) and reversible addition−fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT). The macroinimers used to synthesize copolymers have the general structure AB*, where A stands for PEO with a terminal double bond and B* stands for a PS block with a terminal initiating group (TEMPO or RAFT CTA). Bulk NMP yielded copolymers with high… Show more

“…[ 59 ] Tsukruk and coworkers have prepared Langmuir monolayers or multilayers through the selfassembly of amphiphilic HBPs at the air-water interface or on the substrates. [60][61][62][63] For the latter, a solvent evaporation-induced self-assembly method is used. Barner-Kowollik and coworkers prepared a hyperbranched multiarm copolymer of H 20 -star -PS, and got a honeycomb fi lm with the evaporation of the polymer carbon disulfi de solution on a cold substrate at 0 ° C. [ 64 ] The pores were close to 1.5 μ m in diameter and arranged in hexagonal closed packing.…”

“…The ligand-exchange reaction was achieved through a phasetransfer reaction in accordance with previous reports. [51,52] Functionalized gold nanoparticles were chemically grafted to the azide groups by means of click chemistry. [53][54][55] The final product was washed vigorously by repeated centrifugation and redispersion in an excess of solvent until the supernatant was transparent.…”
