Synthesis and Investigation of the Curcumin-Loaded Magnetic Lipid Nanoparticles and Their Cytotoxicity Assessment on Human Breast Carcinoma Cell Line

Abstract: Chemotherapy fails to eradicate cancer cells, mainly due to the lack of selective drug accumulation into the tumor site, which can affect healthy cells, as well. In this research, we studied the magnetite nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) for targeted delivery of curcumin into breast cancer cells. Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) were prepared using coprecipitation method by mixing FeCl2 and FeCl3 in a suitable ratio in alkaline media. The resultant ferrofluid was very stable and possesse… Show more

“…Over the last decades, iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) have gained attraction for researchers in different new technological fields, including bio-separation, targeted drug delivery, bio-sensing, magnetic resonance imaging, magnetic hyperthermia and thermoablation [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. This is due to remarkable properties IONPs, such as super paramagnetism, desirable size to conjugate with biocompatible coating agents [8].…”

“…The IC50 of PCL-T-M measurements were 278.30 and 236.19 mg mL −1 , respectively, and PCL-T-M did not show toxic traces. [57][58][59] The heatmap of concentration of Curloaded PCL-T-M, free Cur, and free PCL-T-M show using color changes from red (low intensity) to violet (high intensity), respectively (Fig. 8D and F).…”

“…In comparison, doubling of drug penetration for F4 with Virgan®, these result was consistent with Liu et al finding. 8 The presence of lipid carriers, surfactants, and co-surfactant in the NLCs composition that acts as permeability enhancers and the small particle size of the product all contribute to improved passive drug transport through the cornea. In addition, the corneal flux was improved due to the preservative benzalkonium chloride.…”
