“…The emission spectra of Eu 3+ provide a sensitive tool to evaluate the coordination environment of the luminescent centers. Typically, the Eu 3+ spectra are composed of multiple emissions due to the 5 D 0 → 7 F J ( J = 0–6) transitions, in which (i) the 5 D 0 - 7 F 1 transition is only partially allowed through the magnetic dipole selection rule, and its intensity is relatively independent of the site symmetry, and (ii) the 5 D 0 - 7 F 2 is a forced electric dipole transition, and its intensity is proportional to the square of the ligand dipolar polarizability. Consequently, the ratio of R 21 , which is defined as the intensity ratio of the 5 D 0 - 7 F 2 transition relative to the 5 D 0 - 7 F 1 , is an optical indicator to show the degree of distortion from the centrosymmetric geometry for Eu 3+ . According to Figure c,d, the 5 D 0 → 7 F 2 transition (bands at 611 and 626 nm) dominates the emission spectra in both compounds. The calculated R 21 values are 6.59 and 5.28 for Y 2 O 2 S:Eu 3+ and Y 2 O 3 :Eu 3+ , respectively.…”

“…Light emitting diodes (LEDs) are considered to represent the fourth generation of light sources in the general lighting industry because of their exceptional and unique qualities. [1][2][3] Because LEDs possess attractive colors, a tiny form factor, and ease of construction, they have widespread usage in the decoration and night illumination of cities. [4][5][6] Combining phosphors with n-UV chips (350-420 nm) is one approach that LEDs gives practical colors in their light output.…”
