The phase transformation, structure and magnetic properties of mechanically alloyed (MA) Pr 10 Fe 82Àx V x B 8 , Pr 10 Fe 76 V 6+y B 8Ày , and Pr 10Àz Nd z Fe 76 V 13 B 1 alloys and their nitrides have been studied. With increasing V content, the magnetic main phase in the Pr 10 Fe 76 V 6+y B 8Ày series changes from the Pr 2 Fe 14 B-type phase via a metastable Pr(Fe,V,B) 7 phase with TbCu 7 -type structure to Pr(Fe,V,B) 12 phase with ThMn 12 -type structure. After nitrogenation, the easy magnetization of Pr(Fe,V,B) 7 and Pr(Fe,V,B) 12 phases changes from easy in-plane to easy c-axis, and their Curie temperatures are greatly enhanced, due to the entrance of nitrogen into the interstitial sites. In the Pr 10Àz Nd z Fe 76 V 13 B 1 series, the substitution of Nd for Pr gradually leads to the complete formation of (Pr,Nd)(Fe,V,B) 12 phase with ThMn 12 -type structure and the disappearance of a-Fe. The coercivity of the Pr 10Àz Nd z Fe 76 V 13 B 1 N d alloys is drastically enhanced by Nd substitution. r
