Synthesis and Properties of Polypropylene Carbonate Polyol-Based Waterborne Polyurethane

Abstract: Different kinds of anionic polyhydric alcohols water-borne polyurethane (WPU) emulsion and films were prepared by separately taking polypropylene carbonate polyol (PPC), polyethylene-1,4-buthylene adipate glycol (PBA) and polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMG) with the same molecular weight as soft segment. Their structure and properties were characterized with Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), rigidity, adhesive power, contact angle and water absorption. Comparing their… Show more

“…8 Furthermore, it is expected that this particular type of isocyanate exhibits promising potential for substituting carcinogenic aromatic isocyanates and facilitating the synthesis of polyurethane materials with low toxicity and special functions. For example, FDI and THFDI are expected to replace special functional isocyanates with similar structures such as m -xylylene diisocyanate (XDI) 14 and 1,3-bis(isocyanatomethyl)-cyclohexane (H 6 XDI), 15 respectively, and their synthesized polyurethanes will be able to compete with non-biobased polyurethanes with aromatic and alicyclic structures as prospective biopolymer materials.…”
