“…Complex 7 features an ion-pair structure with the four-coordinate anionic unit [Eu{N(SiMe 3 ) 2 } 3 Cl] and the μ 2 -chloro-bridged Eu 2 cationic moiety [(thf) 5 Eu(μ-Cl) 2 Eu(thf) 5 ]. The overall composition of the anionic unit [Eu{N(SiMe 3 ) 2 } 3 Cl] is comparable to that found in trivalent ate complexes [Ln{N(SiMe 3 ) 2 } 3 Cl] − [Li(thf) 4 ] + (Ln = Sm, Y) or the tetravalent cerium complex Ce[N(SiMe 3 ) 2 ] 3 Cl . By comparison of the Eu–X metrical parameters in 7 (Eu–N, average 2.308 Å; Eu–Cl, 2.619(1) Å) with those reported for [Sm{N(SiMe 3 ) 2 } 3 Cl] − [Li(thf) 4 ] + (Sm–N, average 2.321 Å; Ln–Cl, 2.631(2) Å) and [Y{N(SiMe 3 ) 2 } 3 Cl] − [Li(thf) 4 ] + (Y–N, average 2.25 Å; Y–Cl, 2.55 Å) the composition of 7 is best described as a monoanion/monocation pair.…”

Accordingly, this renders the disordered and symmetry-related entity [(thf) 5 Eu(μ-Cl) 2 Eu(thf) 5 ] monocationic, formally (and favorably) involving Eu(III) and Eu(0) centers (unlikely alternative: Eu(II) and Eu(I)).…”

“…The preparation of heterobimetallic disiloxanediolates of scandium and yttrium was performed as illustrated in Schemes and in analogy with the previously developed method . In the first step, ScCl 3 (THF) 3 or anhydrous YCl 3 was allowed to react with LiN(SiMe 3 ) 2 in order to produce in situ the “ate” complexes [(Me 3 Si) 2 N] 3 M(μ-Cl)Li(THF) 3 . The addition of 2 equiv of 1 to the resulting reaction mixtures produced colorless or slightly yellowish solutions from which the new heterobimetallc disiloxanediolates [{(Ph 2 SiO) 2 O} 2 {Li(DME)} 2 ]ScCl(THF/DME) ( 2 ) and [{(Ph 2 SiO) 2 O} 2 {Li(THF) 2 } 2 ]YCl(THF) ( 3 ) could be isolated in high yields ( 2 , 81%; 3 , 77%).…”

“…The reactions leading to the first praseodymium disiloxanediolates are summarized in Scheme . At first, anhydrous PrCl 3 was allowed to react with 3 equiv of LiN(SiMe 3 ) 2 in order to produce in situ the “ate” complex [(Me 3 Si) 2 N] 3 Pr(μ-Cl)Li(THF) 3 . Subsequent treatment of the resulting solution with 2 equiv of 1 afforded a clear yellowish solution from which the new compound [{(Ph 2 SiO) 2 O} 2 {Li(THF) 2 }{Li(THF)}]Pr(μ-Cl) 2 Li(THF) 2 ( 4 ) was isolated in 68% yield in the form of colorless platelets.…”
