Synthesis and Structural Determination of a Novel Heterometallic Complex [Sb2(edta)2‐µ4‐Co(H2O)2]·5.15H2O

Abstract: The novel three-dimension edta-linked (edta=ethylenediamine-N,N,N′,N′-tetraacetate) heterometallic complex [Sb 2 (edta) 2 -µ 4 -Co(H 2 O) 2 ]•5.15H 2 O has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, FT-IR spectrum, X-ray diffraction analyses and thermogravimetry-differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC). The complex crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P2 1 /n, lattice parameters: a=0.69969 (2) the Sb(III) ion is six coordinated by two nitrogen and four oxygen from edta ions, tog… Show more

“…It is found that the absorption peak ν as (COO − ) at 1690 cm −1 of Na 2 H 2 edta is shifted red to 1593 cm −1 and the absorption peak ν s (COO − ) at 1353 cm −1 of Na 2 H 2 edta is shifted blue to 1402 and 1385 cm −1 in the complex. The difference values [Δ ν ( ν as  −  ν s ) = 191 and 208 cm −1 ] between the frequencies of the asymmetric and symmetric stretching vibration confirm that the oxygen atoms of carboxylic groups are coordinated to metallic ions by the monodentate mode and bidentate bridge mode in the complex [42], and it is in agreement with the crystal structure. The weaker absorption peaks at about 1356 and 828 cm −1 may be from the stretching vibrations in the free nitrate ion.…”

“…Some antimony complexes have been mainly used in the clinic medicine because of their medicinal utility and biological activity [1][2][3][4][5][6]. To synthesize new complexes of antimony will be interesting not only for the main group elements chemistry but also for the bioinorganic chemistry.…”
