Synthesis and Structure of a New Family of 3d-4f Heterometallic Compounds Rb7LnFe6O2(PO4)8 (Ln: Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy): Magnetic Properties of the Sm-, Gd-, Dy-Derivatives. -The title compounds are synthesized by reaction of Ln2O3 (Ln: Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy), Fe2O3, P4O10, and KO2 in an equimolar RbCl/RbI flux (evacuated silica tube, 800°C, 2 d). The Rb7LnFe6O2(PO4)8 compounds crystallize isomorphically in the triclinic space group P1 with Z = 1 (single crystal XRD). The three-dimensional framework of the compounds contains LnO6 octahedral, FeO5 trigonal bipyramidal, and μ3-oxo [Fe4O18] tetrameric units interconnected via PO4 tetrahedra. Temperature--dependent magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate antiferromagnetic-like behavior for the compounds with Ln: Sm, Gd, and Dy. The magnetic moments of these compounds are significantly smaller than expected. -(SANJEEWA, L. D.; WEST, J. P.; HWU*, S.-J.; J. Solid State Chem. 192 (2012) 337-341, http://dx.
