Structure D 2000Synthesis and Structure of Ln 2 (H 4 IO 6 )(I 2 O 10 )·H 3 O·5H 2 O (Ln: Pr, Nd, Sm), a Lanthanide Periodate Diperiodate. -Crystals of the title compounds are prepared by slow evaporation of solutions containing Ln(ClO 4 ) 3 (Ln: Pr, Nd, Sm), H 5 IO 6 , and an excess of HClO 4 . As revealed by single crystal XRD, the compounds crystallize in the monoclinic space group I2/a with Z = 8. The structures contain two types of periodate ions: octahedral H 4 IO 6 groups and two crystallographically different I 2 O 10 groups formed by two edge-sharing octahedra. These anions coordinate to the cations as bridging groups yielding a three-dimensional network. The lanthanide ions are 9-fold coordinated with a tricapped trigonal prismatic geometry. -(FISCHER, A.; Z. Anorg.
