The high surface area of mesoporous silica SBA-15 has been synthesized successfully by hydrothermal treatment with direct addition of PVA, triblock copolymer (P123) as a direct structure agent and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as a precursor. The mesoporous silica SBA-15 have been characterized with nitrogen physisorption, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy, and x-ray diffraction. Measurement of nitrogen sorption indicated that with the addition of PVA, the surface area is increased but the pore volume and pore diameter is not significantly. The short time of hydrothermal treatment (20 h) and using x-ray diffraction, showed that the morphological structure of silica SBA-15 can be changed to a orthorhombic crystal system. The result of the FTIR and SEM-EDX characteristic indicated the functional groups and morphology of the SBA-15 with a narrow pore size distribution. The BET method has exhibited the largest surface area 1726 m2/g, pore volume 1.4 cm3/g, and pore diameter 3.2 nm. It can be suggested that the silica mesoporous SBA-15 will have potential application prospect in catalysis, storage, and adsorbent.

This paper presents a synthesis of mesoporous silica (MS) from natural clay as silica sourceusing L35 pluronic(EO11PO16EO11) as structure directing agent. The prepared material wascharacterised by XRD, FRX, TGA, SEM, MET and N2 adsorption-desorption analyses. Then,mesoporous material was used for the removal of Acid Red 337 (AR337) from aqueous solution, and the treatment of real textile effluent. The effect of pH, contact time, weight of adsorbent and initial concentration wasstudied in batch adsorption. The synthesizedmesoporous material showed good discolouration efficiency with a 62% percentage. Experiment with real textile wastewater showed that 39%, 40% and 31.2% of thecolor, TOC and CODrespectively were eliminated byusing 1g of MS per litre of wastewater.

Modified mesoporous silicas were examined as adsorbents for efficient removal of model pollutants from wastewaters. Functionalized SBA-15 materials for capture of cationic pollutants such as metal cations and anionic dyes were obtained using post-synthesis grafting method. Large organic ligands containing acetyloacetone, 2aminopyridine, 2-aminothiazole and 2-aminobenzothiazole groups were incorporated into the adsorbents' structure. The adsorption capacities reached levels of 38.6, 43.1, 64.3, 68.6 and 88.9 mg g −1 for Cu 2+ , Rose Bengal, Congo Red, Levafix Amber CA gran and Methyl Orange, respectively. Moreover, the adsorption efficiency depended on a type of the model molecule and a type of the surface chelating group. The pores' size and the pores' volume of the hybrid materials before and after adsorption was determined in hydrated state using thermoporometry. For the first time, by means of this methodology, it was possible to propose a model of interactions between the adsorbed molecules and the grafted organosilanes. Adsorption of organic dyes resulted in most cases in formation of J-aggregates.
