Synthesis, Biological Study and Complexation Behavior of Some Anionic Schiff Base Amphiphiles

Abstract: A novel series of anionic Schiff base amphiphiles were synthesized. The chemical structures of these compounds were elucidated using different spectroscopic tools. The surface and thermodynamic properties of the prepared Schiff bases were studied using classical measurements including surface and interfacial tensions. The surface parameters of these compounds, e.g., surface tension, critical micelle concentration, effectiveness, efficiency, maximum surface excess, minimum surface area, and interfacial activity… Show more

“…Schiff bases can be prepared from aliphatic or aromatic amines and carbonyl‐containing compounds by nucleophilic addition, following by a dehydration to give imines. In this study, we particularly focused on conjugated Schiff bases, thus a series of conjugated Schiff bases (2‐en‐1‐imines) 1a – n was synthesized by means of literature procedures . First, we investigated the reaction of typical simple Schiff bases with Woollins' Reagent.…”

“…Schiff bases are important intermediates for the synthesis of some bioactive compounds such as βlactams, and they form a significant class of compounds in medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry with a variety of interesting biological actions including antibacterial, antifungal, antimouse hepatitis virus (MHV), and adenovirus type 5 (Ad 5), anticancer and herbicidal activities [1][2][3][4][5].…”

“…Electrophilic Friedel–Crafts-type alkylation reactions are of limited scope due to the deactivation of the Lewis acid by an unprotected NH 2 group and/or competitive alkylation reactions on the nitrogen atom. However, few synthetic methods were reported, including catalytic alkylations with organozinc compounds, and a few other catalytic methods or reactions utilizing protonated anilines. , The C(sp 2 )–C(sp 3 ) catalytic coupling reactions between aromatic halides and aliphatic organometallics have attracted significant attention in recent years. These types of C–C coupling reactions constitute an efficient tool for rapid and predictive increase of molecular complexity of aromatic compounds.…”
