Synthesis, characterization and application of 1-(2-cyanoethyl)-3-(3-methoxypropane)imidazolium bromide for CO2capture

Abstract: Abstract. Amine scrubbing is dominating in carbon dioxide (CO2) capturing technology because of its high affinity towards CO2. However, the drawbacks of amine solvents are its high corrosivity and volatility. Ionic liquids (ILs) have gained a lot of attention in recent years for CO2 capturing and have been proposed to be one of the promising alternative to the conventional solvents. The objective of this research is to design a new imidazolium based ether-nitrile functionalized ionic liquid of low viscosity to… Show more

“…Furthermore, imidazolium based ILs containing Cl − , Br − , BF 4 − and PF 6 − as anions were used for phenol extraction and their efficiency followed the order: Cl − > Br − > BF 4 − > PF 6 − . 142 This result further supports the hypothesis that the nature of the IL anion has a key role in phenol extraction. On the other hand, ILs containing tetraethylammonium cations and various amino acid-based anions such as alanine, glycine, proline, sarcosine, and lysine showed high efficiency of phenol extraction (>97%) with small differences between them.…”

“…1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium and other ILs have shown exceptional extraction capabilities, achieving up to 99.9% phenol removal [30]. Nevertheless, the wider use of ILs in industrial sectors is hindered by issues related to increased toxicity with longer alkyl chains, susceptibility to impurities affecting their physical and chemical properties, and the high cost of their synthesis and purification [31][32][33].…”
