Synthesis, characterization and bio-activity of metal complexes of bidentate N–S isomeric Schiff bases derived from S-methyldithiocarbazate (SMDTC) and the X-ray structure of the bis[S-methyl-β-N-(2-furyl-methylketone)dithiocarbazato]cadmium(II) complex

Abstract: Condensation of SMDTC with 2-furyl-methylketone and 5-methyl-2-furaldehyde gave isomeric Schiff bases, (NS) and (NS'). The metal complexes of these uninegatively charged bidentate Schiff base ligands with cadmium, tin, iron, lead and cobalt have been prepared. The complexes have been characterized by a variety of physico-chemical techniques. X-ray crystallographic analysis shows that the Cd(II) complex, bis[S-methyl-β-N-(2furylmethylketone)dithiocarbazato]cadmium(II), consists of two molecules with distorted o… Show more

“…The MIC values are tabulated in Table 7. However, all the inhibition zones obtained were lower than those observed in the antibacterial activities of other related S-methyldithiocarbazate (SMDTC) and Sbenzyldithiocarbazate (SBDTC) complexes [48]. Table 6 Qualitative anti-bacterial assay data a (inhibition diameter in mm) …”

“…Isatin-bishydrazone ligands, namely [(pyridine-2-carboxaldhyde)-3-isatin]-bishydrazone (cpish), [(2-acetyl pyridine)-3-isatin]-bishydrazone (apish), and [(2-benzoyl pyridine)-3-isatin]-bishydrazone (bpish), were prepared in two steps: The first step was the synthesis of isatin-monohydrazone, followed by condensation with the 2-pyridyl, giving the isatinbishydrazone ligands. 1 Vibrations of the water molecules, 2 Vibrations of the Indol ring (N-H), 3 Vibrations of the lactonyl group (C=O), 4 Vibrations of the azomethine group (C=N), 5 Vibrations of group from the β-hydrazone of isatin (C=N), LMCT = ligand metal charge transfer.…”

“…ing used as biological models in understanding of the structure of biomolecules and biological process [2]. Schiff base ligands containing various donor atoms (such as N, O, S) show broad biological activity and are of special interest because of the variety of ways in which they are bonded to metal ions.…”

“…pythsalHI was the most potent antibacterial agent, indicating that the iodine plays an important role in the antibacterial activity [34,35]. The three iron(III) complexes that were tested have moderate activity (inhibitory zones [15 mm) against all four gram-positive bacteria, except [Fe(pythsalNO 2 )(H 2 O) 2 ]Cl 2 that has weak activity toward S. aureus [39]. Also the results in Table 3, indicate that the all three complexes are moderately active against the two gram-negative bacteria (inhibitory zones [15 mm), except for [Fe(pythsalNO 2 )(H 2 O) 2 ]Cl 2 which shows weak activity toward pneumoniae [39].…”
