Synthesis, Characterization and Biological Activity of Mixed Ligand (Imine of Benzidine and 1,10-Phenanthroline) Complexes with Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) Ions

Abstract: In this paper, binuclear metal complexes of the metal ions Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) were synthesized by the reaction of the primary ligand (imine of benzidine) (H2L) and the secondary ligand (1,10-phenanthroline) (L`) with these metal ions in a molar ratio of 1:2:2, respectively. The complexes were characterized using CHN elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-Vis, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductivity, 1H NMR, and TGA-DTA thermogravimetric analysis. According to the results obtained from the elemental a… Show more

“…The peaks were observed at 251 nm, which corresponds to the electronic transmission (π→π*) in pi system in a benzene ring and N-C=S systems, and at 321 nm, which corresponds to the electronic transmission (n→π*) in nitrogen and sulfur sys-tems (n→π*). [27][28][29][30] The electronic spectra of complexes (C1L1) and (C2L1), showed the same bands at 294 nm, 364 nm, 492 nm (Figs. [16][17], but the difference is in the strength of the bands.…”

“…The results of (Figs. [23][24][25][26][27][28] show that the pH λ max for the L1 and L2 was at pH=9, whereas the λ max of their complexes was at pH=2 for (C1L1) and (C3L2), and at pH=4 for (C2L1) and (C4L2). Job's method was adopted for continuous changes in order to determine the positional formula of the complexes.…”

“…The 1 HNMR spectrum of the ligands showed the hydroxyl protons appeared at δ = 3.23 ppm for water. The chemical shifts of the DMSO appeared in 2.45-2.53 ppm [35,36].…”

“…Due to its composition of N and O atoms, trimethoprim acts as a multi-dentate ligand, forming comprehensive compounds with metal ions [5]. In combination with other ligands like bipy and 1,10-phen, it forms mixed ligands that demonstrate stability in biological, organic, and thermal contexts [6]. Notably, there's potential for antitumor cytotoxicity [7].…”
