Synthesis, Characterization and Catalysis of Ce-MCM-41

Abstract: The cerium-containing MCM-41 (Ce-MCM-41) has been synthesized by direct hydrothermal method. The low-angle XRD patterns revealed the typical five major peaks of MCM-41 type hexagonal structures. The interplanar spacing d100 = 38.4 Å was obtained that can be indexed on a hexagonal unit cell parameter with ao = 44.3 Å which was larger than that of pure siliceous MCM-41 (Si-MCM-41). Transmission electron micrograph shows the regular hexagonal array of uniform channel characteristics of MCM-41. The BET surface are… Show more

“…According to the data presented in Table 3, the adsorbent showed pore diameter values between 20-500 Å, which correspond to mesoporous IUPAC, 1982), thereby confirming the observations in Figure 3.The increases in the surface area, diameter, volume, and area of the pores following calcination indicate that the calcination process was effective. These results are in agreement with the literature for MCM-41 (Beck et al, 1992;Chien et al, 2005;Silva, 2007a;Cai et al, 2011;Fu et al, 2011;Li et al, 2011;Saladino et al, 2011;Bing et al, 2012;Du & Yang, 2012;Jiang et al, 2012a-b;Ghorbani et al, 2013).…”

“…Also, there was an increase in the unit cell parameters and pore diameter, which can be attributed to the Ce atomic size (radius = 1.01 Å) being larger than that of Si (radius = 0.54 Å), which corroborates the XRD results. These results are consistent with reports of other authors (Chien et al, 2005;Bing et al, 2012Bing et al, , 2013González Vargas et al, 2013;Akondi et al, 2014).…”

“…The samples had hexagonal or spherical micelle-like edged rods. Similar micrographs were also obtained by Chien et al (2005), Park et al (2007), Akondi et al (2012) and Bing et al (2013).…”
