Synthesis, characterization and electrochemical properties of poly(phenoxy-imine)s containing carbazole unit

Abstract: Several new Schiff base polymers were synthesized via oxidative polymerization method in an aqueous alkaline medium in the presence of NaOCl as an oxidant and were confirmed by FT-IR, 1 H-NMR, 13 C-NMR and UV-Vis spectroscopic techniques. Furthermore, cyclic voltammetry measurements were carried out and the HOMO-LUMO energy levels and electrochemical band gaps (E g ′) were calculated. “…Schiff base molecules gained importance due to interactions between the electron-donating aldehyde group and the distinct aniline of electron-deficient aldimine bonds. In photonic and electronic devices, the energy gap of a material is influenced by changes in the dopant, which affects the conductivity, optical band gap, and temperature stability; however, changes in the refractive index and dielectric constant greatly influence the optoelectronic properties of the material in Schiff base compounds [22][23] in terms of changes in molecular structure. The proposed article describes the structural importance of synthesized Schiff base compounds involving 4-Hydroxybenzaldehyde with distinct anilines as follows HBN (4-Hydroxybenzaldehyde: p-nitroanilines), HBC (4-Hydroxybenzaldehyde: p-chloroanilines), HBA(4-Hydroxybenzaldehyde: anilines) for optoelectronic properties, as evidenced by experimental studies.…”
