Synthesis, characterization, and potential application of polyurethane foam as an effective alternative for dental aspiration substrate in liquid absorption/retention and mechanical properties

Abstract: Tooth extraction will leave a wound that may cause blood leakage, and the application of liquid‐absorbing hemostatic cotton pressed on the wound can play the effect of pressure to halt bleeding. Unfortunately, the loose structure of the dental absorbent hemostatic cotton causes local slag to fall. Cotton fiber will impede wound heading and possibly drop into the throat and esophagus, thus impacting the life and health of the patient. Therefore, it is of great significance to prepare a material with toughness a… Show more

“…For instance, soft-hard phase separation is typical of linear and elastomeric structure on account of introducing chain extenders [3,4]. Instead, cross-linking agents are used to obtain cross-linked structures [5], and blowing agents are employed to acquire foamed materials, both linear and crosslinked [6,7]. At present, the raw materials for producing polyurethanes, including diisocyanates, polyols, and chain extenders, predominantly come from petroleum [8].…”

“…Polyurethane (PU) is used in various technical applications due to its high tensile strength, chemical resistance, processability, lightness, softness, and many other mechanical properties (Ayesha 2017; Duldner et al 2023; Lee and Kim 2023). PU foams are important in various industrial applications, including automotive, sports equipment, insulation, medicine, and antibacterial material production (Li et al 2023; Weber and Srinivas Sundarram 2023; Yan et al 2020). PU foams are classi ed into rigid, exible, and semi-rigid (Ahmed et al 2015;Kausar 2018).…”
