“…In a series of related complexes of general formula K 2 M(Ni(NO 2 ) 6 ) with MZBa, Pb and Sr, Takagi et al [33] reported cubic structures. Based on these results, Bolibar et al [28] indexed KLa[Ni(NO 2 ) 6 ] as a cubic unit cell with lattice parameter 10.571 A ˚. Since, the ionic radius of K C and NH C 4 are very similar, it is expected that our precursor NH 4 La[Ni(NO 2 ) 6 ] has similar lattice parameters.…”

“…The observed mass loss of 56.2% at 600 8C is in good agreement with a value of xZ4 (calculated mass loss: 56.4%). Previous studies on related complexes [28] have shown a mass gain in air around 500 8C which was indentified as an oxidation reaction of nitrites. This gain was not observed for NH 4 La[Ni(NO 2 ) 6 ]-xH 2 O, probably due to fast decomposition of ammonium nitrite.…”

“…[10,11] In this sense, several studies with different metallo-organic precursors, employing carboxylate ligands such as edta, [12] oxalate [13] and tartrate, [14] or nitrite [15] have been carried out, and more recently using the malonate ligand. [8,16Ϫ18] Malonate complexes such as [AM(C 3 H 2 O 4 ) 2 (H 2 O) 4 ], where A is Sr or Ba and M is Mn or Cu, showed interesting spin octahedral symmetry.…”
