“…It is interesting that the strong peaks of the zinc iodide compounds do not change visibly and that the peaks have redshifted in comparison with the strong peaks of the zinc bromide complexes. According to the reported photoluminescent results of 4′-phenyl-terpyridine and other substituted terpyridine compounds, the peaks around 380 nm are assigned tentatively to the π–π*/MLCT mechanism [ 22 , 23 ]. The other peaks of the iodide anion compounds ( 2 , 4 and 6 ) in the low-energy region are assigned temporarily to n –π*/LMCT [ 22 ].…”

“…Zinc is the second most abundant essential trace element in the human body, being involved in the synthesis of DNA and proteins [ 20 , 21 ]. Substituted terpyridine compounds are effective ligands for transition metal complexes [ 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 ]. Therefore, Zn(II) terpyridine complexes are worth exploring in molecular biology and related fields.…”

“…The terpyridine molecule serves as a tridentate, nearly coplanar, N 3 donor ligand, and, in some cases, also as a mono or bidentate ligand [28]. Square planar and octahedral metal complexes with TPY ligands have been reported to be of great biological interest, and complexes exhibiting planar structures can easily insert themselves in DNA base pairs [29][30][31]. Zinc, being one of the most important trace metals for human being, appears as an attractive metal due to its importance in the regulation of the metabolism of cells, cytoprotective effect, and suppressing the apoptotic pathways [32][33][34][35][36].…”

“…Substituted terpyridines such as 4 0 -chloro-2,2 0 :6 0 ,2 00 -terpyridine continue to be recognized as useful chelating ligands for many transition-metal ions, including platinum(II) (Qin et al, 2019), copper(II) (Choroba et al, 2019), cadmium(II) (Li et al, 2020), and zinc(II) (Li et al, 2019). Metal complexes containing zinc(II) and substituted terpyridines as chelating ligand have been shown to have promising antitumor activity (Liang et al, 2019). Our research group interest currently lies in the synthesis of novel terpyridinemetal complexes with potential antitumor activity; as part of our research in this area, herein we describe the synthesis and structure of the title zinc(II) complex.…”
