Synthesis, characterization, structural, optical properties and catalytic activity of reduced graphene oxide/copper nanocomposites

Abstract: This paper reports on the synthesis and use of copper nanoparticles supported on reduced graphene oxide, as separable catalysts for N-arylation of phenylurea with aryl halides under ligand-free and microwave conditions. Also, the structural and optical properties are studied.

“…The interlayer spacing was determined from the (002) peak by applying Bragg's law with a wavelength of Cu Kα as 1.541˚ Å. After the thermal treatment of GO at 350˚C, the fact that the sharp diffraction peak at 2θ = 11.95˚ disappeared indicate the efficient exfoliation of the multiple layers during the thermal reduction of GO [22] [23] [24]. The SEM micrographs of GO synthesized by a modified Hummers processing Figures 6(a)-(h) clearly shows that the GO has a two-dimensional sheet-like structure.…”

“…Presence of the hydrophilic functional groups attracts water molecules and increases the capacitance. GOs have lots of hydroxyl groups as well as carboxyl groups in their structure [44]. The incorporation of GO in CNC matrix increases number of hydrophilic functional groups like hydroxyl groups and carboxyl groups in the composite.…”
