Synthesis, crystal structure, photoluminescence and semiconductive properties of a novel terbium complex

Abstract: A new terbium complex, [Tb 2 (phenoxyacetic acid) 6 (H 2 O) 3 ] n •nH 2 O (1) with a two-dimensional (2D) layered structure, has been prepared via a hydrothermal reaction and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique. Compound 1 crystallizes in the space group Pī of the triclinic system with two formula units in one cell. Each terbium ion in compound 1 is coordinated by nine oxygen atoms to yield a monocapped tetragonal antiprism geometry. Photoluminescence spectra measured with … Show more

“…Hpoa with mostly monodentate and chelating coordination ability, on the other hand, should disrupt the dense framework formation, leading therefore to open frameworks. With respect to the sensitization process, , both 2,5-H 2 pydc and Hpoa are recognized as effective sensitizers and can effectively promote the desired f–f emissions. , The pyridine ring of 2,5-H 2 pydc and the O atom and phenyl ring of Hpoa, in addition, should be available to interact with ammonia through hydrogen bonding interactions and consequently induce viable alteration in the f–f emission profile of Ln III .…”
