Synthesis, crystal structures and, magnetic and photoluminescence properties of lanthanide-based metal–organic frameworks constructed with 2,5-dihydroxybenzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid

Abstract: Four new lanthanide(iii) coordination polymers (1–4) have been synthesized by using 2,5-dihydroxybenzene-1,4-dicarboxylate as a ligand and investigated for magnetic and photo-luminescence properties.

“… 56 While the peaks at 1635 and 1599 cm −1 can be, respectively, assigned to the imide and carboxylate carbonyl functionalities 57,58 . The infrared spectra of Mn‐NDISA and H 4 NDISA ligand are compared, and we can distinctly see that the stretching vibration peak of the H 4 NDISA ligand shifts from 1578 to 1599 cm −1 for Mn‐NDISA complex, which shows that the carboxyl oxygen atoms of H 4 NDISA ligand are strongly coordinated with the metal manganese centers to form crystal material 59 . The obtained powder x‐ray diffraction spectrum of yellow crystals is close to the simulated spectrum based on single crystal diffraction result (Figure S6), indicating the bulk crystalline samples is of phase purity.…”

“…It is noteworthy that while various Ln-MOFs have been assembled using the H 4dobdc ligand, the current topology structure showing triangular porous channels is unique compared to those of previously documented H 4 dobdc-based Ln-MOFs. [39][40][41][42][43][44] Both results indicate the diversity of Ln-H 4 dobdc extended frameworks. Furthermore, it should be noted that while the pcu topology is not uncommon, the presence of 1D triangular porous channels in such a topology is exceedingly rare.…”

“…Its structural rigidity and four pH-dependent extractable protons render H 4 dobdc a compelling multifunctional organic ligand for generating stable and rigid highdimensional MOFs. [37][38][39][40][41][42][43][44] As a result, we reported two isostructural lanthanide coordination chains with slow magnetic relaxation (Dy 3+ ) and magnetocaloric effect (Gd 3+ ). 35 Additionally, a Dy(III) MOF, utilizing Dy(III) cubanes as secondary building units, was found to display slow magnetic relaxation behavior under applied dc field and an rare ecu topology.…”

“…Ce UiO-66-(OH) 2 was the only structure that could not be synthesized by the one-step methods, probably due to the chemistry of the linker: the dihydroxy groups can coordinate to Ce ions in many different ways, leading to a number of possible geometries 50,51 and complicating the formation of the targeted UiO-66 crystal structures. The two-step synthesis of Ce UiO-66-(OH) 2 , (first pre-heating the Ce precursor at 80 °C in water) was also unsuccessful.…”
