Synthesis design of a wideband impedance transformer consisting of two‐section coupled lines

Abstract: An impedance transformer employing two‐section coupled lines is presented in this study, which can achieve a wide operating band or passband with three reflection zeros. A direct synthesis approach is proposed and applied to the design of this transformer with the prescribed Chebyshev‐function frequency response. If the impedance–transformation ratio, passband return loss (RL), and operating bandwidth are properly specified, all the required design parameters of this transformer can be explicitly gained. “…Although the high r and filtering response were obtained, they only achieved a fractional bandwidth (FBW) of 8.27%. Similarly, a multilayer two cascade parallel coupled lines IT with FBW of 50% was presented in 4 with r = 2. On the other hand, the wideband ITs using quarter‐wavelength ( λ /4) parallel coupled line with air bridge connection stepped impedance transmission line (TL) and open/short‐circuited TLs were designed in the microstrip line 5‐9 .…”

“…The highest impedance ratio is stated as 520:5. In [5–8 ], filtering impedance transformer synthesised by transmission function is studied in depth. Moreover, in [9 ], impedance transforming bandpass filter with controllable spurious frequency based on λ /2 stepped impedance resonator is designed.…”
