Synthesis formulas for microcoplanar striplines

Abstract: This article presents new and accurate synthesis formulas for the microcoplanar stripline (MCS). The synthesis formulas are obtained by means of a differential evolution algorithm, and are useful to microwave engineers for accurately calculating the physical dimensions of MCS. The average percentage error is calculated to be 0.9% for 2254 MCS samples having different electrical parameters and physical dimensions, as compared with the results of the quasi‐static analysis. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. “…PSO algorithm is an optimization technique inspired by social behavior of bird flocking or fish schooling. It is recognized that DE and PSO algorithms are practical and powerful optimization tools for a variety of electromagnetic problems [19–34]. The validity and accuracy of the proposed synthesis formulas are verified by comparing their results with the results of CMM [13], a full‐wave electromagnetic simulator IE3D [35], and experimental works realized in this study.…”

“…Rectangular boundary division method (RBDM) [10], finite difference time domain method [11], and conformal mapping method (CMM) [12, 13] have been used for analyzing of MCPSs. The synthesis formulas for MCPSs were also proposed in the literature [10, 14, 16]. The synthesis formulas proposed in Refs.…”

“…DE algorithm, one of the evolutionary algorithms, has been proven to be a highly efficient technique for solving numerical optimization problems. It is recognized that DE algorithm is practical and powerful optimization tools for a variety of microwave engineering problems [15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23]. The synthesis formulas proposed here are used to successfully compute the physical dimensions of CBCPWs.…”
