Synthesis, morphology and spectroscopy of cubic Y3NbO7:Er

Abstract: Synthesis of Y 3 NbO 7 :Er powders with the aid of Li 2 SO 4 flux is reported and spectroscopic properties of the resultant powders are presented. The dopant content varied in the range of 0.1-15 at%. The materials crystallized in the fluorite-type cubic structure in which all the metal ions-Y, Nb, and Er-randomly occupy the same site offered by the host lattice and the O-vacancy is also randomly distributed within the metal surrounding. Transmission electron microscopy images revealed that the agglomeration o… Show more

“…The 2 H 11/2 state is located only slightly above the 4 S 3/2 , and the 2 H 11/2 → 4 S 3/2 nonradiative relaxation should be very efficient. However, it has been proved , that the 2 H 11/2 state can be easily populated thermally at ambient temperature because of the thermal 2 H 11/2 → 4 S 3/2 backtransfer of energy, which allows for the 2 H 11/2 → 4 I 15/2 radiative transition to appear.…”

“…RE ions possess good luminescence characteristics (high color purity) due to their inner shell electronic transitions between the 4f n energy levels. Among many RE ions, Er 3+ , ,, Sm 3+ , ,− Tb 3+ , and Tm 3+ are well-known as active dopants for many different inorganic lattices. The RE ions can easily replace the yttrium ion.…”

“…Figure 7 shows the possible UC emission mechanisms in YF 3 :Er 3+ nanocrystals. 20 concentration is high enough, the cross-relaxation 4 F 7/2 → 4 F 9 : 4 I 11/2 → 4 F 9 can occur, resulting in the enhanced red emission.…”

“…However, this effect has not been studied in the A 2 B 2 O 7 and A 3 BO 7 transparent ceramics. Y 3 NbO 7 ceramic with the fluorite structure has been studied for several applications, such as oxygen ionic conductor, 14 thermal barrier coating, 13,16 and photoluminescence, 17,18,19 but the optical properties have not been reported. In our previous study, 13 the Y/Nb ratio was adjusted in the Y 1−x Nb x O 1.5+x compounds, which are nonstoichiometric compositions of Y 3 NbO 7 .…”
