Synthesis of 1,2,3‐Triazolyl‐Based Ketoximes Using Calcium Carbide as an Acetylene Source

Abstract: A novel method for the synthesis of 1,2,3‐triazolyl‐based ketoximes by directly using readily available calcium carbide as an acetylene source, (Z)‐2‐azido‐1‐arylethan‐1‐one oximes as starting materials, and copper(I) chloride as a catalyst is described. The method provides a simple route to (Z)‐1‐aryl‐2‐(1H‐1,2,3‐triazol‐1‐yl)ethan‐1‐one oximes in good to excellent yields through [3+2] cyclization. The salient features of this protocol are the direct use of easy‐to‐handle acetylene source, inexpensive catalys… Show more

“…Manufacturing acetylene from calcium carbide is the current hydrocarbon-free method of industrial acetylene production. Moreover, calcium carbide has some advanced applications in organic synthesis [22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30] , catalysis [31][32][33][34] , mechanosynthesis 31,35 and materials science 36 , with a continuous increase in interest in acetylene-based technologies due to the efficiency of atom-economic addition reactions. However, acetylene release is accompanied by the formation of calcium carbide residue (CCR), which is simply disposed and accumulates in landfills 37,38 .…”
