Synthesis of Cellulose-Based Macromolecular Coupling Agent and its Utilization in Poly (butylene succinate)/Wood Flour Composites

Abstract: A long fatty side chain was introduced into the macromolecule of hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) via esterification reaction. The hydrophobicity of hydroxyethyl cellulose lauric acid ester (HECLAE) was enhanced in comparison with HEC. The obtained HECLAE was used as macromolecular coupling agent in poly (butylene succinate)/wood flour composites and exhibited a positive influence on improving the mechanical performance of composites.Besides, HECLAE plays a role as a hydrophobic agent in composites. A significant … Show more

“…A minimum of five test bodies were tested. 13 C MAS NMR spectra were recorded on a AVANCE-II spectrometer (Bruker Corporation, Billerica, MA, USA) in a 14.1 T magnetic field ( 13 C resonance frequency 150.9 MHz) using a home-built MAS NMR probe for 25 × 4 mm Si 3 N 4 rotors. In all experiments, the sample spinning frequency was set to 12.5 kHz.…”

“…The relaxation delay in the CPMAS NMR experiments was 5 s and the number of transients acquired was 2000. The direct excitation experiment, using a single pulse on the 13 C channel with 1H decoupling, was conducted with a 90 • pulse (3 µs), a 60 s relaxation delay and 1000 transients.…”

“…[20] At present, a variety of compatibilizers have been used by many researchers to improve the compatibility between WF and PBS. For instance, Xiao [21] used a kind of cellulose fatty acid ester as macromolecular coupling agent in PBS/WF composites. Marco Valente [22] introduced recycled paper in high density polyethylene matrix composites which additivated with maleated PE.…”

“…However, its extensive application is limited due to the high cost compared to petroleum-based polymers. Another approach to forming biodegradable plastics is to blend low-cost macromolecules, such as protein [10,11] , starch [12,13] and natural fiber [14,15] with high performance biodegradable plastics. Several studies on the development of bio-based plastics derived from soy protein, wheat protein, corn zein, and sunflower protein have been conducted [10].…”
