Synthesis of chestnut-bur-like palladium nanostructures and their enhanced electrocatalytic activities for ethanol oxidation

Abstract: We report a facile method for the synthesis of Pd nanostructures with highly open structure and huge surface area by reducing Na₂PdCl₄ with ascorbic acid and using cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) as a surfactant in an aqueous solution. The prepared Pd nanostructures had an average overall size of 70 nm and were composed of dozens of needle-like thin arms, originating from the same core, with an average thickness of 2.3 nm; the arms looked like chestnut-burs. Time evolution of Pd nanostructures implied that smal… Show more

“…This has however not been explored so far. This may be due to the complicated synthetic protocols involving multistep reactions and sophisticated experimental skill required for constructing 3D polymers . Therefore, it is necessary to design a facile synthesis approach for obtaining 3D conjugated aromatic polymer photocatalyst.…”

“…It is believed that the synthesis of the chestnut-bur-like Pd nanoparticles shown in Fig. 8 can be also described by the particle attachment mechanism (Ye 2014). The chestnut-bur-like Pd nanoparticles had a highly opened nanostructure and dozens of needle-like thin arms stretched outward (Fig.…”

“…The flower-like Au@Pd nanoparticles and the chestnut-bur-like Pd nanoparticles showed excellent electrocatalytic properties toward the ethanol oxidation reaction (Fig. 10) Ye 2014). Both nanoparticles had a high electrochemically active surface area (ECSA), as determined by cyclic voltammograms (CVs) ( Fig.…”
