“…The Cu 2 + /Cu + ratio decreases significantly from 2.06 for CuZr/Ti to 1.68 for CuCeZr/Ti. This result is in agreement with those reported by Gaudin et al [9] and indicates that the presence of cerium oxide favors the formation of Cu + species. Quantitative data give Ce 3 + /Ce 4 + ratios of 0.319 for CuCeZr/Ti and 0.758 for CeZr/Ti.…”

“…This result suggests that the addition of CuO can inhibit the growth of CeO 2 crystals during the calcination process. [27][28][29] On the other hand, the crystal size of CeO 2 enlarged slightly with the increase in metal loading from 10 to 40 wt%, which is connected with excessive Ce species aggregation on the surface of MCF.…”

“…As mentioned, if only linking the change trend of Ce(III) composition with that of the oxygen vacancy concentration among samples, a con°ict result could present; however, when taking the sum composition of Ce(III) and Cu(I) as a comprehensive indication among samples, interestingly, a roughly proportional increase in oxygen vacancy concentration or Os composition with the increased (Ce(III) þ Cu(I)) composition appeared among samples, clearly illuminating that besides of Ce(III), Cu(I) was also an important contributor to manipulate the surface feature such as the composition of active oxygen species along Ce-O-Cu interface. 19,22,24,[34][35][36][37] The phenomenon was particularly prominent on CeO x^C uO-EE samples, again, which could be attributed to the advantage of constructing more interactive Ce-O-Cu interface from the etchingembedding preparation. In addition, Ce(III) composition change was opposite to Cu(I) composition change among samples, the situation could be mainly assigned to the feature of etching-embedding preparation for getting CeO x^C uO-EE samples, as mentioned, Ce(IV) etch Cu 2 O to produce Cu 2þ and Ce(III), the reaction direction would lead to an opposite composition change for Cu(I) and Ce(III) species.…”
