A 3D hydroxysulfate, Mn 5 (OH) 8 SO 4 , formed from a mild hydrothermal reaction has been reported. The compound crystallizes in the triclinic system P1 with cell parameters a = 7.5501(5) Å, b = 8.5558(6) Å, c = 8.6059(5) Å, α = 98.122(4)°, β = 102.370(4)°, γ = 99.646(4)°, V = 526.19(6) Å 3 and Z = 2. The crystal structure consists of a 3D framework with channels along the c-axis. In this structure, the manganese atoms in the distorted pentahedra and octahedra are intercon-
