Synthesis of green emissive terbium(III) complexes for displays: Optical, electrochemical and photoluminescent analysis

Abstract: A series of heteroleptic terbium(III) complexes with fluorinated 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone (TTFA) and other heteroaromatic units have been synthesized. The developed heteroleptic complexes were inspected via elemental study, cyclic voltammetry, thermal analysis and spectroscopic investigations. Optical band-gap data proposed the conducting property of prepared complexes. The photoluminescence emission profiles illustrated peaks based on terbium(III) cation (Tb 3+ ) positioned at $617, 586, 546 and 491 nm, impu… Show more

“…The relatively low luminescence lifetime of the europium complex with the same ligand can be explained in a similar way. The results obtained for the para-position of the substituent in the ligand correlate with the data from [30]. Europium and terbium complexes with two other ligands have longer luminescence lifetimes.…”

“…From (x, y), the other colorimetric parameters i.e., (u ′ , v ′ ) and color temperature (CT) were estimated through eqn ( 6) and ( 7). [66][67][68] (u ′ , v ′ ) with CT values are manifested in Fig. 11.…”

“…Luminescence due to 4f-transitions is of special interest since 4f-orbitals are shielded from 5s and 5p ones. As a result, the emission bands are quite sharp, while the luminescence is pure in color and individual for REE [4][5][6]; for example, it is red for the europium(III) [7,8] and green for the terbium(III) ion [9,10]. Samarium(III) and dysprosium(III) complexes receive much less attention since their luminescence intensity is usually low compared to europium(III) and terbium(III) complexes.…”
