Synthesis of high value-added zeolitic materials using glass powder residue as a silica source

Abstract: In this work, zeolite A was obtained using alkaline fusion followed by a hydrothermal treatment of glass powder residue derived from the manufacturing of glass. The following parameters were evaluated: leaching of the stock material (silica source), mineralizing agent, alumina source, and the alkaline fusion and crystallization temperatures. The synthesized materials were characterized by chemical analysis using energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (S… Show more

“…Figure 4c peaks shows we got that is near exact to zeolite A thus we took the range of 2 theta angle of zeolite A from 5 o to 60 o . The detected peaks are specially for Zeolite A appear from the range 5 o to 60 o of the X-ray powder pattern diffraction which the last peak of zeolite A appear at 53.5 o angle [15]. Also figure 4d shows that peaks of two theta degree exact to zeolite AFX.…”

“…In Figure 4a the first XRD peak is observed at exactly 6.33° and other peaks are also very sharp indicated crystalline so it is zeolite-Y type [14]. Figure 4b we noted that the first peak appear at 14 o of 2theta angle then the next peaks appear at 31 o ,47.5 o and 58.5 o so these peaks of zeolite SOD is small (low intensity) [15]. Figure 4c peaks shows we got that is near exact to zeolite A thus we took the range of 2 theta angle of zeolite A from 5 o to 60 o .…”

“…EDX and SEM micrographs are presented in the Electronic Supplementary Information -ESI. 4 The yields of the different concentration process steps were calculated, resulting in 72.2% and 81.2% for the first and the second HCl treatments respectively, and the total yield of the entire process was 58.6%. If larger quantities of powder glass residues were employed, the yields could behigher.…”

“…Alves et al [4] successfully used these residues after performing alkaline fusion in the synthesis of zeolites A, X and sodalite employing basic media and obtaining a mixture of these phases. This result demonstrated the need of a more in depth study to obtain one-phase zeolites before companies could start to employ these wastes in their processes.…”

“…Muitos processos para remediações ou mitigações para os danos causados por ações antropológicas têm sido descritos na literatura. Dentre estes o uso de zeólitas naturais ou sintéticas como adsorventes para os poluentes em efluentes tem sido de grande interesse (ALVES et al, 2014, IZIDORO, 2013, WANG, DUANMU, SPALDING, 2009). Neste trabalho foi dado o enfoque na adsorção de CO2 em sólidos, mais especificamente em zeólitas.…”
