Synthesis of Hollow Co Structures with Netlike Framework

Abstract: Hollow Co structures with the size of 4-10 microm were fabricated by a simple solvothermal process using stearic acid as surfactant. Cobalt stearate formed at the initial stage and further self-assembled to micelles as a soft template. This precursor controlled the growth rate of Co crystal to form the primary nanorods attaching on the surface of the micelles. These nanorods then assembled into hollow Co spheres with a dense shell. Because of the acidic etching effect of stearic acid, however, the hollow Co sp… Show more

“…However, the selectivity towards 1,2-propanediol, 1,3-propanediol increased up to 3 wt% and decreases slightly beyond this loading. This is probably due to the presence of strong and weak acid sites which favors the formation of 1,2-propanediol and 1,3-propanediol, respectively [33,34]. Feng et al also reported similar findings [13].…”

“…Our present study suggests that at 230°C, the hydrogenolysis of glycerol reaction provides optimum yields towards desired hydrogenolysis products. The reason for the increase in degradation products at higher temperatures is probably due to further hydrogenolysis of propanediols to yield lower alcohols [33,34].…”

“…Due to electrostatic interactions, these particles are adsorbed onto the surface of the previously formed supramolecular assemblies of the surfactant; the assemblies play the role of templates. Some authors have reported the formation of spherical micelle arrays of surfactant in aqueous solutions, which act as a soft template and promote the formation of hollow microstructures [48,49]. In the present work, because the hollow smallest diameter spheres are considerably larger than the size of a single micelle, other supramolecular assemblies, such as vesicles, could be acting as a soft template.…”

“…Cobalt stearate is used as a prooxidant additive in polyethylene to accelerate the rate of degradation in the environment . Cobalt stearate has applications in producing Co nests , mesoporous silica , and as an adhesion promoter in the curing of rubber . CuSt 2 can be used in the detection of volatile organic compounds.…”
