Synthesis of Hollow Yttria Partially Stabilized Zirconia (YPSZ) Fibers Using Cotton Fibers as Template

Abstract: Hollow yttria partially stabilized zirconia (8 wt% Y 2 O 3 fibers have been successfully synthesized using cotton fibers as template. Cotton fibers were first immersed into a mixed solution of Zr(NO 3 4 and Y(NO 3 3 and subsequently sintered in air at a high temperature to obtain the final YPSZ fibers. The as-prepared fibers were characterized by SEM and XRD, respectively. TG-DTG and DTA were also adopted to investigate the sintering process. The results indicated that the synthesized YPSZ fibers are hollow in… Show more

“…The molar ratio of ZrO 2 powders/ZrO 2 in the sol and Al 2 O 3 -ZrO 2 fibers/total ZrO 2 were 7=1 and 1=9, respectively. Al 2 O 3 -ZrO 2 ceramic fibers were produced by an immersion method as reported in a previous paper [13] Cotton fibers were used as template and aluminum nitrate solution (with 10 wt% zirconia nitrate) was used as immersion solution. After immersion, drying and sintering at 1200 ı C, Al 2 O 3 -ZrO 2 ceramic fibers were finally obtained.…”
