Synthesis of ion‐imprinting chitosan/PVA crosslinked membrane for selective removal of Ag(I)

Abstract: A novel ion‐imprinted membranes were synthesized for selective removal and preconentration for Ag(I) ions from aqueous solutions. The membranes were obtained via crosslinking of chitosan (CS), PVA, and blend chitosan/PVA using glutaraldehyde (GA) as crosslinker. The FTIR spectra were used to confirm the membrane formation. Comparing with the nonimprinted membranes, Ag(I)‐imprinted CS and CS/PVA has higher removal capacity and selectivity for Ag+ ions. An enhancement in the Ag+ removal capacity by ∼ 20% (from 7… Show more

“…Similar trend has also been reported by chromium (VI) adsorption onto sawdust [8]. The adsorption of silver ion onto blend chitosan-polyvinyl alcohol resin occurred due to free lone pairs electrons on the amino nitrogen are suitable for coordination with silver ion to give the corresponding adsorbent-metal complex [9]. The adsorption capacity of silver from photography wastewater by blend chitosan-polyvinyl alcohol resin was 4.3 mg/g.…”

“…The prepared adsorptive membranes (CS/PVA-CNTs) were added to the aqueous solutions containing different concentrations of heavy metal ions (Zn(II) and Pb(II)) (50, 150, 300, 500, 700, 900 and 1100 mg/L). The equal membrane to solution ratio was maintained in all the experiments (1 g/L) [26][27][28][29]. The mixture was stirred (150 rpm) for 7 h at 25 °C.…”

“…Ion imprinting for the cross-linked CS adsorbent proposed by Shawky et al [86] overcame this problem. The aforesaid authors used Ag Another study involving CS was proposed by Wang et al [87], however, in this work, CS was used blended with PVA, in order to obtain a film-forming material, the metal ion-imprinted membrane (IIM) was prepared using silver ions as templates (Ag (I)-IIM).…”
