Synthesis of MCM‐41 material from acid mud generated in the aluminum extraction of kaolinite mineral

Abstract: The use of acid mud produced during the aluminum extraction of kaolinite to synthesize mobil composition of matter no. 41 (MCM‐41) type material is proposed in this work. The acid mud was placed in contact with NaOH at 550°C to release the silicon and aluminum, then the fused material obtained was mixed with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) followed by a hydrothermal treatment considering a factorial design 2k with four experimental factors (CTAB dose, synthesis time, temperature, and solid/liquid ratio).… Show more

“…When the sodium silicate synthesized from sand is used to form the SBA-15, particles of heterogeneous morphology are appreciated; moreover, some typical structures of SBA-15 material are formed. In this last case, the interparticle porosity contributed to mesoporosity [29]. Particles of size<500 nm are observed generating the surface area in the total material.…”

“…There has been much research in recent years into the synthesis methods of MCM-41, [8][9][10][11] but only a few studies concerning the synthesis methods of KIT-1. One of these studies was conducted in 1996 by Ryoo et al, and it successfully synthesized KIT-I, for the rst time, by an electrostatic templating route by means of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid tetrasodium salt (EDTANa 4 ), HTAC1, and sodium silicate [2].…”
