Synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymer for removal of Congo red

Abstract: Congo red (CR) is an anionic azo dye widely used in many industries including pharmaceutical, textile, food and paint industries. The disposal of huge amount of CR into the various streams of water has posed a great threat to both human and aquatic life. Therefore, it has become an important aspect of industries to remove CR from different water sources. Molecular imprinting technology is a very slective method to remove various target pollutant from environment. In this study a precipitation polymerization wa… Show more

“…The peaks at ~ 2900 cm −1 are due to C-H stretching vibrations found in propineb, methacrylic acid, and EGDMA, and ~ 2995 cm −1 is the stretching vibrations of = C-H. Strong peaks at ~ 1720 cm −1 suggest the presence of -COOH of methacrylic acid. In addition, ~ 1635 cm −1 , ~ 1440 cm −1 , ~ 1300 cm −1 and ~ 1200 cm −1 peaks correspond to the presence of C=C stretching, -CH 2 stretching, CH 3 group and C-O stretching, respectively [32,33]. The similarity of the spectra of the post-extraction NIP and MIP indicates that the polymerization procedure was carried out successfully [34].…”

“…The distribution ratio of SiO2@LMAC2MIP-3 towards Mit was evidently higher than the distribution ratios of interfering molecules. This suggests that the migration of Mit to specific binding sites of the imprinted polymer is more favorable, resulting in a more favorable adsorption of Mit compared to its structural analogs [60]. In the case of SiO2@LMAC2MIP-3, the values of selectivity coefficient α with respect to Mit were high.…”

“…However, the use of high‐functional monomer concentrations does not always result in good analytical performance due to an increase in the nonspecific affinity of the sorbent. The addition of an excessive amount of functional monomer may cause functional molecules to self‐associate, resulting in a reduction in the formation of binding sites on the sorbent 59 . Therefore, it is necessary to optimize functional monomer concentrations to produce MIP‐MS with good analytical performance.…”
