Synthesis of multi-organo-functionalized fibrous silica KCC-1 for highly efficient adsorption of acid fuchsine and acid orange II from aqueous solution

Abstract: Multi-functionalized fibrous silica KCC-1 (MF-KCC-1) bearing amine, tetrasulfide, and thiol groups was synthesized via a post-functionalization method and fully characterized by several methods such as FTIR, FESEM, EDX-Mapping, TEM, and N2 adsorption–desorption techniques. Due to abundant surface functional groups, accessible active adsorption sites, high surface area (572 m2 g−1), large pore volume (0.98 cm3 g−1), and unique fibrous structure, mesoporous MF-KCC-1 was used as a potential adsorbent for the upta… Show more

“…The adsorption efficiency increased with an increase in Zn(BDC) due to the availability of more adsorption sites and consequently a larger surface Table 1 The comparison of the maximum adsorption capacity for the adsorption of three dyes onto various adsorbents reported in literature Dye Adsorbent q max (mg g −1 ) Conditions References area for dye uptake. Similar results were mentioned in the literature (Sharma et al 2021;Soltani et al 2021;Usman, Aftab, et al 2021b, a). Moreover, the smallest amount of Zn(BDC) which is saturated with AB refracted the highest selectivity of the surface towards AB.…”

“…The hydrogels were stable while maintaining NaOH concentrations from 0.1 to 1 mg L –1 in this study (see Supporting Information Table S2). For better understanding, we also compared the dye adsorption efficiency of the hydrogels with previously reported silica-based adsorbents, as shown in Supporting Information Table S3. It is seen that the adsorption performances of the neutralized SiO 2 –H 3 BO 3 –HDTMS hydrogel are equivalent or even superior considering all testing parameters.…”

“…Other chemicals with amino functions, such as cetyltrimethylammonium bromide [53], polyethyleneimine [57], N-(3-chloro-2hydroxypropyl) trimethylammonium chloride (CHMAC) [55], and 3-aminopropyltriethoxy silane (APTES) [58] have also been commonly used to improve the adsorption of NO 3 − anions. Many studies in the last few years have focused on developing new hybrid materials and composites based on agricultural wastes and amino-alkyl silane (AAS) derivatives for the effective removal of various pollutants [58][59][60][61][62][63][64]. This is due to the presence of the amine function of the amino-alkyl silane derivative, which proves the great interest in the chemical surface functionalization of the adsorbents by the AAS moiety.…”
