Synthesis of multiport resistors with piecewise-linear characteristics: a mixed-signal architecture

Abstract: Non-linear multiport resistors are the main ingredients in the synthesis of non-linear circuits. Recently, a particular PWL representation has been proposed as a generic design platform (IEEE Trans. Circuits Syst.-I 2002; 49:1138–1149). In this paper, we present a mixed-signal circuit architecture, based on standard modules, that allows the electronic integration of non-linear multiport resistors using the mentioned PWL structure. The proposed architecture is fully programmable so that the unit can implement a… Show more

“…The main advantages for the -basis lie in its ease of handling from a numerical point of view, as we shall see later, and in its direct mixed-signal circuit implementation [6]. The ÿ-basis is particularly signiÿcant because of its quite direct analog circuit implementation based on the max(0; ·) operator [5].…”

“…MATLAB toolboxes are available that allow to design explicit MPC control laws, see, e.g., Bemporad [2004], Kvasnica et al [2004]. Interestingly, the hardware implementation of PWA functions has been deeply studied in circuit theory (see, e.g., Parodi et al [2005], and the references therein), and the related results can be exploited to setup an integrated design methodology for MPC-based embedded controllers.…”

“…The location of the simplex (point location problem) can be carried on in a very simple way, due to the regularity of the partition [Parodi et al, 2005]. Digital architectures for the computation of PWAS functions have been proposed in and they are employed in the toolbox.…”
