Synthesis of N,N′-bis[4-(benzeneazo)salicylaldehyde] 4-methyl-1,2-Phenylenediamine and Its Transition Metal Complexes

Abstract: 4-(Benzeneazo)salicylaldehyde(HL ) was synthesized with aniline, sodium nitrite, and salicylaldehyde. The di-Schiff base ligand, N,N -bis[4-(benzeneazo)salicylaldehyde]-4-methyl-1,2-phenylenediamine (H 2 L) has been prepared by 2:1 molar condensation of HL with 4-methy-l,2-phenylenediamine. Its manganese(II), copper(II), nickel(II), zinc(II), cobalt(II), and cadmium(II) transition metal complexes were prepared and characterized by their infrared spectra, electronic spectra, and elemental analysis. The 1 H NMR … Show more

“…The azo group possesses excellent donor properties and is important in coordination chemistry [1,2,3], and some azo compounds have been shown to possess good antibacterial activity [4,5]. Schiff bases are well known to have antifungal, antitumor and herbicidal activities [6,7,8,9,10,11]. Salicylaldimine-based ligands have found applications in preparation of metallomesogens, optical metal ion detection and enantioselective catalysis [12,13,14,15].…”
