Synthesis of nanocrystalline silver sulfide

Abstract: Silver sulfide (Ag 2 S) powders have been synthesized through chemical precipitation from aqueous solutions of silver nitrate, sodium sulfide, and sodium citrate or Trilon B as a complexing agent and stabilizer. The synthesized Ag 2 S powders have a monoclinic (sp. gr. P2 1 /c) acanthite (α Ag 2 S) structure. The colloidal stock solutions decanted from the synthesized precipitate have been shown to be stable for at least a year. The particle size of the silver sulfide in the colloidal solutions and precipitate… Show more

“…On the HRTEM images, there are areas that differ in the mutual orientation, in the system of interplanar distances and, more importantly, in the lattice constant values, which can be correlated with the F 1 and F 2 fractions. Earlier, similar results on a microinhomogeneous structure have been received for PbS and Ag 2 S nanopowders in which nonstoichiometry can take place too but much less than in cubic carbides.…”

“…Sodium sulfide (Na 2 S),, [18b], [18c], hydrogen sulfide gas or hydrosulfuric acid (H 2 S), elemental sulfur (S) dissolved in concentrated NaOH solution, toxic carbon disulfide (CS 2 ) in ethanol, sodium thiosulfate (Na 2 S 2 O 3 ), 3‐thiopropionic (3‐mercaptopropionic) acid (C 3 H 6 O 2 S), thiocarbamide (thiourea, N 2 H 4 CS ),, , and thioacetamide [CH 3 C(S)NH 2 ] and their derivatives are used for sulfidizing soluble complex compounds of silver and other metals.…”

“…One promising method for producing thin-film structures and nanostructured sulfide semiconductor particles with various structures [11][12][13][14][15][16] is chemical bath deposition or condensation from solution. Sulfurization can be carried out using hydrosulfuric acid (H 2 S), sodium thiosulfate (Na 2 S 2 O 3 ), sodium sulfide (Na 2 S), thiocarbonic acid amide and diamide (CH 3 C(S)NH 2 and N 2 H 4 CS), and their derivatives.…”
